Dolphin Watching Faqs

Dolphin Watching is one of Port Stephens major tourist attractions. The Port is home to over 120 Bottlenose dolphins which can grow up to 2.5 meters long and weigh up to 200kg. A single adult Dolphin can consume up to 10kg of fish per day and can dive down to a depth of 300 metres and hold their breath for 10 to 15 minutes. They have a lifespan up to forty years.

Watching wild dolphins is not like going to the zoo! The behaviour of wild dolphins is very complex and the experience is always unique as the dolphins migrate through the Bay each day. Charter boats operate regular dolphin watching cruises. Port Stephens’ dolphins are not fed or induced in any way to come to the boats. They do it out of curiosity. If they are not in the mood, they just swim away.
